Writing Challenge: Create a New Genre

© All Rights Reserved

When our house burned down by wildfire, I tried to get the neighbors to join me in what I called a new genre: Fireku. Well, Fireku was actually just Haiku, but the theme of the short poem was specific: wildfire. Here are a few examples of Fireku:

1.

Dust, Ash, Rubble, Trash

2.

Fire Gods! So Hungry!

3.

For all the homeless

4.

Flames of gold and red

So light, so swift, so scary

Screwed into my scull.

5.

Flames danced on my home

Organized. Removed Clutter.

Cleaned out our closets.

6.

Flames of such beauty

And awe. Bejeweled fairies

Serving lemonade.

For this challenge, make up your own new genre. Describe it, that is, tell what it’s characteristics are. Then show it, by writing a few examples. Most importantly, have fun!
