Asking for a Recommendation

Coins

You might feel shy about asking for a recommendation or testimonial, but having such commendations can make a difference in whether or not you get a job, a client, or funding you need for an important project. So take a deep breath, gather your courage, and ask. While composing your request, remember to use everything you know about persuasive messages. Your message should be:

  • clear
  • concise
  • compelling, and
  • credible

I was quick to respond to a clear request for a recommendation, on LinkedIn from Sherry Nouraini. Sherry had just provided some excellent and relevant training on social media, specifically for faculty.

The tone is just right, the purpose is clear, and the message is easy to read.

Hi Lynda,
Thank you so much for leaving those kind messages for me on Twitter and Facebook! You really made my day!

I am writing to ask if you would be willing to share your experience about my workshop at Platt College in a LinkedIn recommendation.

Testimonials make a big difference in my ability to educate other instructors on the art and science of social media.

Thank you so much for considering my request., and please let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,
